Up the Creek was founded in 1991 in an old church hall by Malcolm Hardee, the legendary comedian and comedy club owner who Stewart Lee once described as a “national institution”. Malcom was a regular master of ceremonies at Up the Creek, and over the years the venue has welcomed top comedy talent, including the likes of Jimmy Carr, Dara O’Briain and Jo Brand.

In 2002 Up the Creek won the inaugural Chortle Award for Best Large Venue, and it’s reputation as an electric venue for both high profile performers and up and coming talent is second to none, with weekly events like the Blackout and the Sunday Special achieving legendary status.

In 2018 the Up the Creek Brewery (originally known as Greenwich Brewery) was installed on-site. Since then, Up the Creek has become famous for it’s small scale, artisanal craft beers, which are almost always exclusively available on-site and nowhere else. With fantastic grub available from the in-house street food kitchen and our famous after-show parties continuing into the small hours, Up the Creek is a perfect destination for a full evening of entertainment.
